I have been fortunate to become connected with Africa Heartwood Project over the past few years and to work with its director Andy Jones. I have never met a more selfless person, and his Salt Lake City based charity is a reflection of that selflessness. Africa Heartwood Project is a brilliant, effective charity that supports the Heartwood Refugee Orphan Home in Liberia, clean water projects in remote villages in Ghana, and the livelihoods of artisans in the region. It maintains zero overhead and functions completely through volunteer efforts.
Every single donated penny is honored, appreciated, and put to its best possible use. The work they have been able to accomplish...particularly the hope and dignity they are restoring in children's lives...is something I believe in my heart is worthy and important to support.
Good Bird Design is a craft collective dedicated to supporting - in our small way - the great work being achieved by Africa Heartwood Project. Like-minded artists and crafters donate items to Good Bird for sale, and 100% of the proceeds benefit Africa Heartwood Project.
Good Bird Design began as a neighborhood Bake Sale/Craft Market. Children in the neighborhood distributed flyers, made signs, and participated in the bake sale by manning tables, serving food, collecting raffle tickets and helping in so many ways. Their enthusiasm was contagious! Moms prepared wonderful baked goods. Crafts were made and sold. And our good neighbors came, and kept coming, and by the end of the night we had enough donations to help support our young friend Richard from the Orphan Home for one year's care and education. AMAZING!
An online sale of Good Bird crafts the same year generated enough donations to allow us to support another young friend in the refugee orphan home - Barbara - for an entire year's care. Support for these children was phenomenal!
